VivaCell in Armenia was an outstanding success story achieved by MDIC. VivaCell operation was launched in 2005, became the market leader in less than six months and in just two years managed to cross the 1 million subscribers mark with more than 65% market share.
MDIC launched VivaCell operations in a market dominated by the incumbent’s monopoly and spearheaded the development of the telecommunication sector in Armenia. MDIC assigned to VivaCell a full management team along with several experts and built the whole organization recruiting and training local resources. MDIC is still managing VivaCell MTS operation after MTS, the leading Russian operator, acquired 80% of it in September 2007 in accordance with MTS Corporate Center standards and procedures a tribute to the efficiency and effectiveness of MDIC management and operational skills.
MDIC assisted VivaCell MTS in becoming one of the leaders in the provision of mobile broadband services and in introducing lately LTE end 2010. MDIC strategy to put the emphasis on excellent and far reaching network coverage coupled with an active role in the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) areas has been a key element in achieving a major competitive advantage for VivaCell.
Vivacell MTS is offering now 2G, 3G and LTE services and has more than 2.2 million subscribers with a market share close to 70% in a three operators extremely competitive market.
